DualTech by Takeoff: Accelerating Dual-Use Technologies for NATO DIANA in Italy

Where is DualTech by Takeoff based, and what is its focus?

DualTech by Takeoff is based in Turin, Italy, a key technology hub. As one of the 17 accelerator sites part of NATO DIANA's Accelerator Network, it accelerates dual-use deep-tech, solutions that serve both civilian and defence needs.

What is DualTech by Takeoff's role within the NATO DIANA programme, and what support do you offer innovators?

DualTech is DIANA’s Italian accelerator site, guiding selected start-ups through:

● Modules & mentorship on business, compliance, and procurement.

● Access to DIANA’s 180+ test centres, NATO end-users, investors, corporates.

● €100K Phase 1 funding and tailored follow-on support for top teams.

● Showcase & demo days to connect innovators with defence and industry buyers.

● €300K Phase 2 funding and individualised support for standout teams.

What makes DualTech unique?

 ● Strategic location in Turin’s aerospace/defence cluster.

● Top notch workshops and expert sessions

● Plug and Play global network of corporates, VCs, and mentors.

● Dual-use focus from day one, coaching teams to straddle civil & defence markets.

● Challenge-driven model linked to NATO’s real operational needs.

Can you share an example of a company that you supported?

Zelim, based in the UK, focus on AI-powered maritime detection for search-and-rescue. Zelim joined DualTech’s cohort, gained NATO exposure, testing opportunities, and faster entry into defence procurement. Zelim also got in DIANA Phase 2 securing additional €300.000 in funding. Other examples include InEMSens (AI explosive detection) and Fluid Wire Robotics (robotics for extreme environments).

What is DualTech's biggest success so far within the DIANA programme?

Since its launch, DualTech by Takeoff has quickly positioned itself as a key bridge between NATO’s DIANA network and Italy’s innovation ecosystem. In just its first cohorts, it has scouted and accelerated dual-use startups that now engage directly with NATO test centres and end-users, from Zelim’s AI-powered maritime rescue system to InEMSens’ buried-threat detection tech. Beyond individual wins, the site has built a trusted platform where defence buyers, corporates, and innovators meet, speeding up pilots, procurement conversations, and follow-on investment opportunities.

How does the DualTech accelerator site help connect people to other broader networks?

DualTech bridges local innovators with NATO’s global ecosystem:
● Partners with Italian corporates, universities, defence primes.
● Taps DIANA’s multi-country accelerator/test-centre network.
● Leverages Plug and Play’s cross-industry verticals to open commercial markets
beyond defence.
