MassChallenge: Supporting Innovation in Autonomy & Unmanned Systems, Human Resilience & Biotechnologies, and Operations in Extreme Environments

MassChallenge is one of the accelerator sites that will be delivering NATO DIANA’s accelerator curriculum in 2026. MassChallenge has been part of NATO DIANA as an accelerator site from its pilot year – supporting innovators through mentoring, workshops, and events.

Where is MassChallenge based and what is its focus?

"MassChallenge, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, is a global institution with an unparalleled network and top-ranked accelerator programmes. We exist because the future depends on radically reimagining support for those with the grit to take on humanity’s hardest challenges.

Our programmes bring together founders, partners, and experts advancing solutions in the most technical and complex markets — Finance, Healthcare, Climate, Sustainable Food Systems, and Security & Resiliency — areas of global importance for equity, opportunity, and the future of industry. These are the arenas where progress demands stamina, judgment, and collaboration at every step.

Since 2009 we’ve helped 5,000+ startups raise $16B+ and deliver measurable results with 500+ partners across the globe."

What is your role within the NATO DIANA programme, and what support do you offer innovators?

"MassChallenge has been part of the NATO DIANA programme as an accelerator site from its pilot year to the present. We support innovators through the strength of our network, including mentoring, workshops, and events, tailored to helping breakthroughs move faster from lab to life."

What makes MassChallenge unique?

"The MassChallenge network opens doors others can’t. We work obsessively to connect founders to the experts, regulators, thought-leaders, and decision-makers that move markets.

Our global network and curriculum surround founders and partners with stronger and more specialised capabilities to help startups move from early traction to market adoption faster."

Can you share an example of a company that you supported?

"During the 2025 NATO DIANA programme, our cohort achieved exceptional traction across defense and commercial pathways. For example:

Flosonics Medical (Canada) entered the programme seeking stronger U.S. DoD engagement and, through DIANA connections, and successfully identified opportunities.

myLanguage (USA) experienced success with the Rapid Adoption Service and the U.K. Ministry of Defense.

RealNose.ai (USA) raised funding and is anticipating a Letter of Intent from an Ally.

TACTIQL (Canada) participated in NATO CWIX and exercised with the Polish MoD, drawing interest from defense primes and positioning the company for significant scale.

Cross-cohort collaboration was also strong, including a joint response to a challenge by Kinnami, OWL, and TACTIQL. This type of cross-cohort coordination demonstrates the value of the DIANA network in accelerating dual-use adoption across borders."

What is your biggest success so far within the DIANA programme?

"Each year, DIANA down-selects a small number of startups for additional contractual funding and tailored support in Phase 2. MassChallenge is proud that two of our startups have been selected each year including IONATE and Ephos in 2024, and TACTIQL and Kinnami in 2025. Their success reflects both the strength of the innovators and the value of the MassChallenge ecosystem in accelerating their progress."

How does your site help connect people to your broader networks?

"Our key strength lies in the depth and breadth of our global network. MassChallenge connects innovators with key partners across government, academia, and industry including UMass Lowell, the Defense Innovation Unit, MIT, and many other global partners. Startups benefit from curated introductions to experts, test centers, technical experts, and commercial partners. We also foster cross-site collaboration within the DIANA network. These connections position our site as a central hub in the U.S. innovation ecosystem."
